I got my flu shot yesterday. It was a very quick trip to the doctor's office too. I was really impressed.
Last night I was reading before I fell asleep and my nose wouldn't stop running. I finally figured out that it was from the flu shot and got up to take some Nyquil. About 30 minutes later, my nose stopped running and I fell asleep. Now, why didn't I figure that out sooner? ;) I was up pretty late because I didn't put it all together.
Exciting post, eh? :D
This weekend my brother and family went to visit our parents. He spent Thanksgiving at Mom and Bill's and then spent a couple of days at Dad and Cathy's. A slew of pictures were taken this weekend so go look at them. :D
Dinner was wonderful!
Turkey (2 20 pounders so there are plenty of leftovers). A huge amount of cheesy mashed potatoes. A nice sized amount of sweet potatoes (just butter and some OJ added). Two kinds of cranberries (1: cranberries, oranges, little bit of sugar, 2: see recipe (it came out great even though I had to do some improvising). Cardomomed carrot soup (I used less sugar). Salad with assorted dressings. Roasted potatoes. Vegetarian stuffing. Two kinds of in- bird stuffing (one with apples and was sweeter and one that was vegetable heavy). Vegetarian main dish (I don't remember what it was because there was so much else to eat that I never remembered to try it!). Focaccia. Homemade bread. Asparagus. Pumpkin pie. Apple pie. Bread pudding. Water. Wine. Coffee.
We sent leftovers with a bunch of people and I'll be taking some back to my apartment to share with my roomie. :)
All of the new dishes went over well (both kinds of cranberries, sweet potatoes made my way, cardomomed carrot soup). ;) Bringing a new person into the mix isn't always bad news. [The pies were made by Jonah's grandma and the vegetarian main dish, one loaf of bread and the focaccia were made by his mom.]
Happy leftovers day!
1 pound carrots, peeled and finely grated
1 cup plus 2 T sugar
2 cups low fat milk
1/4 t ground cardamom
2 t grated lemon peel
2 T butter
2 T flour
Garnish: pine nuts, pistachios, almonds, raisins
Cook the carrots with the sugar, milk, cardamom and lemon peel for about 15 minutes, or until the carrots are tender. Pour into a sieve, pressing firmly on the carrots to remove all the liquid. Reserve the liquid.
Melt the butter in a saucepan and stir in the flour. Add the carrots, stirring to coat with the flour mixture, and toss for 3 or 4 minutes.
Pour the cooking liquid over the carrots, mix well, and cook for about 5 minutes, stirring occasionally. Pour into individual serving dishes and garnish with nuts and raisins.
Happy almost Thanksgiving. This is one of my favorite holidays because it means turkey, mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes and cranberry sauce (not from a can, thankyouverymuch). Plus you get to see a bunch of people who you like and what's not to love about that?
Things I'm thankful for (in no particular order):
- Living not nearly so far away from my parents
- Living near my niece and my brother and sis-in-law
- Having a friendly, healthy relationship with my brother again
- Dating a wonderful man (oh right, hi, I'm dating again)
- Living with a really cool woman
- :Brad: - for being a good friend and for also making sure I don't go into Gilmore Girls or Veronica Mars withdrawals
- Being brave enough to switch work fields and surviving it
- Working for SixApart and the spiffy people there
- Silk long underwear (need more!)
- The wonderful friends I left in Colorado (but am planning on visiting in March, I think)
- The wonderful friends I've made in MA
- The wonderful people I know through LiveJournal, blogging or some other Internet connected way
- Food on my table, bills paid, somewhere warm and safe to sleep at night
- Good music
- A nice car for when I need to go places
There are probably more things, but I should get back to work now. ;)
Happy Thanksgiving to all of you (or happy Thursday if you don't celebrate Thanksgiving)!
So I'm running BOINC for the Seti@Home project and it was all nice and happy. Until I rebooted. Now the damn thing won't reconnect to the server. I don't know what do about it either. When I try to connect back to my project, it brings up the proxy/socks screen instead of a nice login window.
And it was so nice and happy for a few days. :(
Any suggestions (that don't include "pave your box and install *nix" because that's not happening)?Foo. A second reboot (to be able to read my memory card for the Treo a second time) fixed BOINC. It's happy again.
BOINC Manager 5.2.7 for Windows.
Who are you?
I am an honest to goodness CL CE [Craigslist Casual Encounters] girl. I have posted casual encounter ads, and I have responded to CE ads. I’ve even met up with guys I picked up (or who picked me up), and in some cases, I’ve even fucked them. Yes, it’s true, there are actual women who actually want to fuck the men they meet on the internet, and I am one of them.
You're sure to learn something if you're dating. Hell, you'll probably learn something even if you're not.
My cat. Not me.
She's been quite the chatty girl! First she spent a lot of the morning on my desk. Then when I decided I needed a break, we laid down on the bed for a bit. She decided that she needed attention then too and came over and bugged me until I started petting her. Now she's sitting at the bedroom door crying. Poor little dear. She wants her options, dammit!
It's not so bad when she's laying down, but she keeps sitting up in front of my monitors.
