It turns out that 6/23 is a big release for one of my major projects this year and the other project lead will be out so I definitely have to cover this release. No Gnomedex for me. :(
I'll miss youguys but I promise to come out and visit Seattle and that :Brad: guy. :)
Ok, so I'm going. :Brad: has offered to let me stay in his guest room (this is based on the assumption that his stuff follows him to Redmond) so that lops off the hotel costs and Chris and I worked together on the other parts (now I have to do my part and find a flight).
Yay! I'm looking forward to going and seeing Seattle. (And meeting more bloggers.)
Gnomedex 5 doesn't seem to be in my future. Between the $350 flight, ~$400 hotel (I haven't done a ton of hotel pricing) and then another $350 for the Gnomedex ticket, well, I could think of other things to do with $1,000+.
It does sound like Chris and Ponzi are providing a lot for the $350, but the total cost of going makes it much less attractive for me. :(
One of the discussions that I got to see was by Yahoo!. They explained their new My Yahoo! site as well as the background for it. It's definitely caught my eye. I haven't visited my personalized My Yahoo! page in about 6 months, but now that they're making it insanely easy to add RSS feeds (from everywhere) to the page, I think I'll play with it again.
If you want to add the "Add to My Y!" button to your site, visit this page to automatically generate the link in the proper format.
Also, here's the list of Gnomedex attendees and their feeds.
FAQ for RSS Syndication (plus info on how to block Yahoo! if you so desire).
You can also ping them so that your feed will show up as updated.
I'm back home. What a wonderful thing. Blue skies, clean air, white puffy clouds. My own bed and pillow.
I'm kind of in a post-Gnomedex funk right now. I met a lot of really cool people this weekend. Now I'm back home with a complaining kitty and a hiding-in-the-bedroom kitty. Very different atmosphere.
I'm off to find some food and get s'more sleep (at least some before I meet Claudia for dinner).
And maybe tomorrow I'll go back and read all the Gnomedex posts. :)
We've got registration all shut down and packed up. I'm going to give Dave back his laptop shortly. I'm not really sure what plans there are tonight, but my flight leaves at 6:30 am (and I have to catch the shuttle at 3 am to make my flight).
I expect to land in Denver, get home and pass out (after making sure the cats have food and water). Back from Mountain time!
I leave for Gnomedex tomorrow afternoon. I won't be back until Sunday, but I should get home around 1 pm (I have a reallllly early flight). Since it's a gathering of geeky types, there will be connectivity so I shouldn't get too far behind reading LJ or blogs. I'll also be checking email from time to time. Plus there's always my cell phone.
For those of you attending, expect to find me near the registration area. I'm sure I'll go to some talks, etc, but I'm helping a friend out too.
Anyway, have a great weekend!
